The project Unhuman focuses on the themes of darkness and misanthropy. All human himself, Manos Simotas is a producer, DJ and promoter who endeavours to create a radical extreme sound utilising drones and rhythms entangled with the worst imaginable human nightmares. Hailing from Athens, Manos clearly recalls how his fascination with alternate sound began when his father presented him with a 20 Years Best of Black Sabbath album for his 7th birthday. He became enamoured and inspired by the sheer power and frequencies of sound when he began to learn the guitar. After finishing his schooling, he went on to study sound engineering while at the same time he worked in several studios. Experimental, post punk, dark ambient, noise rock and new wave being some of the genres in which he became acquainted with whilst working alongside established artists involved in the more radical edge of the underground Athens scene.
Unhuman was founded as a noise project in 2012 in Athens with the release of his first tape, entitled Emperor Black on Species Productions and then a split tape with To The Lovers Farewell on Red Venice Records. Delving deeper into radical noise, experimental and industrial music, a whole new world of possibilities opened up to him when he moved to Berlin in 2012. After founding the Lärm-Alarm-Lärm festival, he combined the idea of underground music and more experiential events going onto organise workshops which encompassed experimental & interactive audio/visual performances in a project space called Shift which led to his current project Liber Null hosted at Arena Berlin which unifies the freedom of arts in a conceptual event and which has grown rapidly since its inception in 2014. With his DJ-project he has performed alongside renowned artists such as D Carbone , Ascion, Makaton, Tomohiko Sagae, Substance aka Dj Pete, James Ruskin, Violet Poison, Eschaton, Truss, Lumisokea. At the moment, Unhuman tours in venues all around Europe and Asia and is a regular act in many of the major Berlin clubs, releasing on labels such as Monolith Records, Amok Tapes and Veleno Viola.
